Agnus Dei is Latin and means "Lamb of God". This tells us that the symbolism is quite specifically Christian. If we go back and look at it from a historical perspective, we see that the expression Agnus Dei is based on the Gospel of John 1:29, where John the Baptist refers to Jesus as the Lamb of God.
The Agnus Dei preferably consists of three pendants under a round column - this is often attributed to the meaning of the Trinity - which in turn hang in a long chain. Some have the centerpiece made from a coin, and this has probably given rise to the more popular name "dalar" or "brudedalar" or even "hengjepening".
