Face Brooches / Glibb Brooches
Face brooches or glibb brooches is actually a generic term for all brooches that have motifs of faces, figures or animals. Nowadays it is mostly used for the silver the west part of Norway (vestlandssøljene). Many other brooches also have such faces. Although the use of symbols can be traced back to pre-Christian times, there was a revival in Catholic times. Patron saints, the Virgin Mary, Jesus or protective fables/symbolic animals were often used.
