The old costume habits in Kvinherad persisted until the early 1900s. Over the years it had changed from a colorful costume into a darker one. Shortly after 1945 a wish for the resurrection of the old, colorful costume arose. The new bunad was based on several old conserved costumes. It has several common traits with bunads from neighboring areas, and is today made in several editions with different combinations in fabric and ribbons. Different types of silver can be used for this bunad. The silver can be gilded, bright or oxidized, and often with colored stones. For the festive costume, gold-plated silver is mostly used, while the winter costume has the oxidized version of the silver.
