Ripple rings / neck rings

These rings are often called neck rings because they are used to hold the neck collar together. However, silversmiths often refer to them as ripple rings because they consist of "ripples" arranged in a circle. But halssølje, sprode, sprette or other local names are seen all over the place. These often function as a neck pin. They are more interesting than they look, because practically all brooches are in some way built up around such simple circles with a needle across them. Others are just much more ornate. And even in that simple form, there's a lot of symbolic meaning. So ripples, neck rings, are valuable pieces of bunad silver.
