Hardangerbunad men

The bunad silver you need is:

  • Neck brooch
  • Cufflinks
  • 16-20 buttons for the vest
  • 28 large buttons for the coat (2 extra if you want three buttons and not just two on each sleeve of the coat)
  • 11 small buttons for breeches with flap (if the pants have a fly, you will only need 6 small buttons)
  • Knee buckles for breeches
  • 5 buttons for long trousers with a flap (if it has a fly, you will not need buttons for it)
  • Shoe buckles, a bunad knife and watch with a watch chain complete the bunad

There are several bunads in use in Hardanger today. It is the costume custom of the mid-19th century that has given rise to the bunad. The usual jersey (jacket) is made of red or green wadding with embroidered edges or ribbons. The most commonly used color for the waistcoat is red, but it is made in several colors. Both short and long trousers are used for the bunad.
